Gabe, great article! The “come work with us” concept is one that I have thought about endlessly for years without identifying the perfect solution. But you bring up a valid point, pay them for their time. So hire any potential employee as a 1099 Contractor to work on one specific project with short deadline/timeline and that determines whether or not to hire them. And ultimately, if you pay a few people for bad work to identify the right candidate, the company/organization will likely save way more money in the long run. This concept has complexity, but so does our current/standard interview process. Thanks again, a disruptive change to the interview process is needed, it is time!
